Asam kandis (Garcinia xanthochymus) adalah jenis asam yang sering dipakai dalam dapur Sumatera. Aroma harumnya yang khas membuat masakan rendang, kari dan aneka gulai semakin sedap.

Sebagian orang menyebutnya sebagai mangga hutan, walaupun sesungguhnya bentuk asam kandis tidak persis menyerupai mangga. Daging buah mangga hutan ini diiris-iris kemudian diawetkan dengan cara pengeringan sampai berwarna kehitaman, hingga menjadi kepingan kering berwarna hitam dan harum.

Asam kandis bisa dimasukkan langsung ke dalam masakan, ketika sudah menjelang matang. Sayur asam yang dibuat dengan campuran asam kandis akan menghasilkan sayur yang beraroma unik namun tetap sedap.
